What Are EPR Targets?
EPR targets are annual recycling obligations—expressed as a percentage of eligible quantity—assigned to producers, importers and brand owners after successful EPR registration and return submission on the CPCB portal.
Why India Needs EPR Policy
Based on the Polluter Pays principle and international conventions (Basel, Stockholm, Rotterdam), India’s EPR policy shifts end‑of‑life waste management responsibility to producers, fostering sustainable design, enhanced recycling infrastructure and circular economy practices.
Benefits of EPR Compliance
● Waste Reduction: Drives collection and recycling at source. ● Circular Economy: Encourages product redesign and resource recovery. ● Regulatory Assurance: Prevents penalties through timely target fulfilment. ● Market Flexibility: Allows trading of EPR certificates among registered entities.
