What is ESI?
ESI (Employees’ State Insurance) is a self-funded social security scheme regulated by the Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) under the Ministry of Labour and Employment. It offers medical, disability, maternity, and unemployment benefits to employees earning ₹21,000 or less per month.
Who Must Register?
Any non-seasonal factory or establishment with 10 or more employees (or 20 in some states) earning below ₹21,000/month must register under the ESI Act. Registration must be completed within 15 days of becoming eligible.
Contribution Rates
• Employer: 3.25% of gross wages • Employee: 0.75% of gross wages • Employees earning less than ₹137/day are exempt from contributing, but employers must still contribute.

Employees and their families receive unlimited medical care from day one of employment, including hospitalization, outpatient care, and specialist consultations.
Maternity & Sickness Benefits
• Paid maternity leave for 3 months (extendable by 1 month) • 70% of wages paid during medical leave up to 91 days/year
Unemployment & Disability Benefits
• Up to 1 year of unemployment benefits under Rajiv Gandhi Shramik Kalyan Yojana • 90% of wages paid in cases of permanent disability or death

1. Sign Up on ESIC Portal
Visit the ESIC website and create an account via the 'Employer Login' section.
2. Email Confirmation
Receive username and password on your registered email ID.
3. Fill Form-1
Log in, select 'New Employer Registration', and fill Form-1 with employer and unit details.
4. Pay Advance Contribution
Make an advance payment for 6 months using available payment options.
5. Receive Registration Certificate (C-11)
Get your 17-digit ESIC registration number and C-11 certificate as proof of registration.
